Broadcast TV Going Digital in 13 Months

Over-the-air television is going to change in February, 2009. That’s when the FCC is mandating that every station complete the switch from analog to digital transmission.

If, like me, you have an older TV set (alright, ours is nearly ancient) you’ll need a replacement TV (there you go, guys, a legit reason to buy some newer technology) or at the least a converter.

About 14 percent of U.S. households watch TV over the air exclusively. That’s 15.5 million households according to the latest FCC report, anyway.

The good news: the government will subsidize some of the costs of that little box. Here’s where to find out more, and to apply for your $40 coupon.
