Debate Camp and Seizures
Seth and I were privileged to be able to attend a local debate camp over Labor Day weekend. We had an absolute blast learning, debating, and even playing (Lincoln-Douglas debaters have a fondness for swing dancing; policy people tend to play volleyball). All was well until the last day of camp, Labor day, when I was woken up by “Coach” and informed that Seth was having a seizure. This would not be the first time if you recall, he also had on in June at our church’s in-city mission trip. At that time it was decided to wait and see how things went.
But returning to Labor Day morning, I rushed downstairs not quite what sure to expect. Seth was Laying very still on his bed, breathing very heavily. I checked his eyeballs and am not quite sure what I saw, but it wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t normal. But the seizure was winding down, and their wasn’t anything I could do anyway. I found the medicine we had been given, and managed to get him to take on. Turns out I needent of bothered, but I didn’t know better at the time. Seth calmed down, we called Mom, and decided to ust let things lie as they were. 10 minutes later Seth was in the shower, and I was on my way to breakfast.
Later, Seth came up to me and, as casually told me “guess what! I had another seizure!” No, really! I guess it was really real if he didn’t remember anything!
He went to the doctor today, and they have decided to hold off on medicine again for the moment. Since they both were night seizures, and seem to be brought on by exhaustion, we have very little concern for worry at this point. If another one happens within three months we may have issues, but at this point there is little to be done. We are all grateful for God’s protection in this matter, and for medical care to address these “incidents.”
